Burkina Faso: Emergency response through cash transfers
Thanks to the contribution from the Kingdom of Sweden, FAO planned to provide unconditional cash transfers to 10 000 households during the lean season in Burkina Faso. Each household is to receive two cash transfers valued at XOF 525 000 (USD 90) through an electronic platform operated by the financial service provider YUP Burkina Faso.
Beneficiaries are provided with a permanent electronic account through which they receive the cash transfers in the form of an electronic message. With this, they can then go to any cash point to withdraw their money. The launch of the first cash transfer, which served as a demonstration on how to use the platform, took place in Noaka, in Centre-North region of Burkina, in September 2018.
