Democratic Republic of the Congo: Strengthening local capacities
The project funded by the European Union aims to sustainably reduce the food insecurity and malnutrition of children under five and pregnant and lactating women in Lomela territory, where food security indicators were amongst the worst in the country.
In order to strengthen resilience, the project focuses on the caisses de résilience approach that integrates three mutually reinforcing dimensions ̶ social, technical and financial. Activities under this approach will contribute to improving quality seed and livestock production, increasing technical capacities, and diversifying income through community savings and loan schemes.
The project also places special emphasis on environmental management and the sustainable use of natural resources to involve local communities in the process of mitigating the pressure on natural resources and ensure their participation in the development of adequate regulations.
