A Guide for Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration in Agrifood Systems
Agrifood systems are drivers of well-being, innovation, and resilience

Agrifood systems are drivers of well-being, innovation, and resilience. They have the potential to nourish people sustainably and healthily while also generating economic opportunities and contributing to ecosystem protection. To fully unlock these benefits, it is urgent to adopt integrated, collaborative solutions. How can this be achieved? A new publication provides answers and concrete guidance. A Coordinated Effort by the United Nations
To support joint efforts among governments, civil society, the private sector, and academia in transforming agrifood systems, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) joined forces with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to develop the publication: Rethinking Our Food Systems: A Guide for Stakeholder Collaboration.
One of the guide’s key messages is that collaboration among actors strengthens the capacity for innovation and adaptation in response to challenges such as food insecurity, climate change, and natural resource degradation. To facilitate this, the guide proposes a structured framework consisting of five modules that offer insights on how to foster dialogue and build consensus

Additionally, the guide highlights the need for inclusive and transparent governance mechanisms, ensuring that each actor has a clear role and the opportunity to actively participate in policy formulation and strategic planning. In this regard, mutual trust among stakeholders and clear coordination rules are essential elements for successfully implementing these policies and strategies, as well as ensuring their long-term sustainability.
Launch Event in Latin America and the Caribbean
The launch of the Spanish version of the guide (also available in French and English) was accompanied by a virtual event where experts and representatives from various initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean discussed the importance of collaborative approaches to transforming agrifood systems. The event highlighted successful experiences and explored strategies to promote effective collaboration among actors with diverse interests and perspectives.
