Join the 5th Global Conference on Sustainable Food Systems of the One Planet Network

The 5th Global Conference of the One Planet Network’s Sustainable Food Systems (SFS) Programme is set to take place from 27 to 29 May 2025 in Brasilia, Brazil, bringing together hundreds of policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders from across the globe to tackle the most pressing food systems challenges. The conference is titled “Overcoming the Barriers to Food Systems Transformation – Coherent Policies and Equity-Sensitive Solutions to Simultaneously Fight Hunger and Malnutrition, Biodiversity Loss and the Climate Crisis,” will be livestreamed. To follow the conference online, please register at this link: Join the 5th Global Conference on Sustainable Food Systems of the One Planet Network.
The 5th Global Conference of the One Planet Network aims to empower policymakers to take bold, evidence-based decisions in key global policy spaces in 2025, including the UNFSS+4 and the UNFCCC COP30. Building on momentum from the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit and its ongoing stocktaking process until 2030, this conference will provide a platform for advancing sustainable, resilient, and equitable food systems.
Since 2021, over 110 countries have developed National Pathways for Food Systems Transformation, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) has been adopted, and 160 countries have signed the UAE Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems, and Climate Action. Despite these efforts, many commitments face challenges in implementation due to political and economic constraints, such as power imbalances, lock-ins, and geopolitical tensions.

It will provide practical guidance and resources for deepening collective efforts towards equity-sensitive and resilient food systems, including adopting a Right to Food approach.
FAO’s role
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division (ESF), plays an active role in energizing and organizing this flagship event. As part of its engagement, FAO, together with the UN Coordination Hub and other members of the SFS Programme is convening a high-level plenary session titled “Convergence and Coherence: Aligning Policies and Actions on Climate, Biodiversity, Inequalities, and Nutrition through the Food Systems Nexus.”
This plenary session will bring together government representatives, civil society actors, and farmers to share their on-the-ground perspectives on the challenges and lessons learned in aligning climate, biodiversity, equity, and nutrition priorities at country level. The discussion aims to foster a deeper understanding of how agrifood system agendas can serve as a unifying framework to address these interconnected global challenges.
Following the plenary session, an interactive workshop on agenda alignment will provide a platform for stakeholders to engage in dialogue and collaborate on advancing thinking and acting towards coherent public policies for agrifood systems outcomes. This workshop will serve as a critical step in promoting integrated approaches that ensure agrifood systems contribute effectively to sustainable development goals.
Through these initiatives, FAO continues to reinforce its commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue and policy coherence for a more sustainable and resilient agrifood future.
