Nukuʻalofa, Tonga 🇹🇴 — The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has officially launched the inception workshop of its flagship Hand-in-Hand (HiH) Initiative in Nukuʻalofa, marking an important milestone in Tonga’s journey toward transforming its agrifood systems.

The workshop brings together national stakeholders, technical experts, and development partners to begin the preparation of a data-driven agrifood investment plan tailored to Tonga’s priorities. The plan aims to unlock targeted investments that strengthen food security, boost rural livelihoods, and enhance the resilience and sustainability of the country’s agrifood systems.

The Hand-in-Hand Initiative is FAO’s country-led approach designed to accelerate progress toward ending hunger and poverty by matching national priorities with strategic investments, advanced analytics, and strong partnerships. Through this inception workshop, participants are aligning on priority value chains, geographic focus areas, and investment opportunities with the highest potential impact.

The agrifood investment plan under development will be presented at the upcoming FAO Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum, held alongside the World Food Forum, where it will be showcased to international partners, donors, and private-sector investors.
