Training animal health workers in Togo

Animal health in Togo is characterized by a high incidence and prevalence of several diseases, both zoonotic and non-zoonotic, with an impact on productivity, public health, rural development and people's livelihoods.

Public health risks at the human-animal interface are a major concern for health security in Togo. The main weaknesses concern surveillance, early warning and human resources. To address these constraints, health emergencies preparedness and response strengthening in Togo was initiated and is being implemented by FAO with funding from the Pandemic Fund from 2024 to 2026.

Training sessions were organised with Togo’s veterinary services to reinforce the capacities of the country's animal health agents in surveillance, inspection of foodstuffs of animal origin and veterinary legislation.
