The International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), in the framework of the GEF-funded FAO Common Oceans Tuna Project, is convening this three- day workshop to advance the development and implementation of Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE) and harvest strategies across tuna fisheries. This workshop brings together experts from tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), scientific institutions, industry, and partner organizations to review progress, exchange experiences, and strengthen practical pathways for robust, evidence-based fisheries management.

The workshop aims to review the status of MSE across tuna RFMOs, share lessons learned and best practices for developing and implementing harvest strategies, explore structural, procedural, and methodological factors influencing MSE progress, and identify opportunities for capacity-building and effective stakeholder engagement.

Participants will also work collaboratively to formulate practical recommendations to guide future MSE development and implementation. By providing a scientific framework for testing and improving harvest strategies, this workshop supports transparent, sustainable, and adaptive management of tuna fisheries, while fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and dialogue across the global tuna fisheries management and scientific communities.

The 3-day global workshop, organized by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) within the framework of the GEF-funded FAO Common Oceans Tuna Project, will cover:

🔹 Global & RFMO-specific MSE experiences

🔹 Stakeholder engagement & mixed fisheries perspectives

🔹 Capacity building, governance, and process efficiency

🔹 Methodological advances, climate change, and transparency

🔹 Regional case studies and capacity-building experiences
