FAO, in collaboration with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Ireland, will host an event on the sidelines of the Hundred and Seventy-nine Session of the FAO Council to launch the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) 2026. The event marks the official start of the United Nations observance of the International Year, and it will raise awareness of the crucial roles that women farmers around the world play in agrifood systems, as well as their contributions to food security, nutrition, and poverty eradication.
