Hybrid Event, 11/09/2023 - 13/09/2023
Live Broadcast Day 1
Live Broadcast Day 2
Context
The regional workshop “Taking action on biodiversity for food and agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean” is part of a series of four workshops to be held in different regions of the world. These events are organized in collaboration with the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations (Apimondia) and with support of the German Government.
The central theme of these workshops is the aplication of the Framework for Action on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture. However, other complementary issues will also be addressed, as well as practices that favor conservation, respectful and responsible use of biodiversity and the reduction of risks and impacts on biodiversity derived from the inappropriate use of pesticides and fertilizers, soil degradation, forest and productive landscapes, and the introduction and spread of invasive and potentially invasive species.
The regional workshop wishes to highlight the importance of the preparation of national reports as a strategic instrument for the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity for the food and agriculture, as well as the need to stablish national mechanisms to ensure that all interested parties in the country have the opportunity to participate in the preparation of the report.
Objective
The regional workshop seeks to encourage, assist the National Focal Points for Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (PFN-BFA) in the implementation of the Framework for Action on Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture, and facilitate the exchange of good practices and lessons learned in the sustainable use and conservation of the BFA.
During three days the participants will carry out interesting discussion panels with high-level speakers, working groups and field trips.
Participants
The workshop is mainly addressed to the National Focal Points of the Commission for Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (PFN-ABP of the respective region), national focal points of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) of the respective region, experts selected and other participants and interested parties.
