Investing in Agrifood Systems in Latin America and the Caribbean

Hybrid Event, 18/08/2026 - 19/08/2026

Latin America and the Caribbean faces a structural financing gap in transforming their agrifood systems towards more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable models.

Despite the region's strategic role in food production and its high exposure to climate risks, it receives less than 10 percent of global financing for agrifood systems, a proportion that has decreased in recent years.

In response to this challenge, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in partnership with governments, integration mechanisms, international cooperation agencies, development banks, civil society, and the private sector, is promoting an agenda aimed at closing this gap through an investment approach that combines data-driven territorial planning, the structuring of investment portfolios linked to priority territories, and the development of innovative financial instruments.

As part of these efforts, FAO invites you to the event “Investing in Agrifood Systems in Latin America and the Caribbean” to promote a high-level dialogue on moving from exclusion to the scaling up of investments in the region’s agrifood systems, while addressing different stages of the financing continuum.
