Background
The National Forest Inventory Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (NFI-LAC Network) is a technical cooperation space aimed at strengthening National Forest Inventories (NFIs) through the exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices among countries in the region.
In recent years, countries in Latin America and the Caribbean have made progress in recognizing the importance of incorporating participatory approaches in the generation of forest information. The participation of local communities, indigenous peoples and traditional peoples at different stages of National Forest Inventories has contributed to strengthening information production processes, promoting greater inclusion of actors linked to forest territories, and fostering dialogue and governance mechanisms around the sustainable management of forests.
Likewise, the growing relevance of issues related to forest monitoring, biodiversity conservation, sustainable management of forest resources, ecosystem restoration and compliance with international commitments related to climate change has highlighted the need to share experiences and generate knowledge on effective modalities for the participation of local actors in national forest monitoring systems.
In this context, the NFI-LAC Network, with the support of the project Enhancing Global Capacity to Increase Transparency in the Forest Sector (CBIT-Forest), is organizing the webinar "Participation of communities in national forest inventories: good practices from experiences in Latin America and the Caribbean", with the purpose of promoting the exchange of experiences among countries in the region, identifying good practices, challenges and opportunities, and contributing to the systematization of knowledge on this topic.
The activity seeks to foster peer learning and strengthen technical cooperation among network members. Likewise, the presentations and discussions developed during the event will be compiled in a technical report, which will document the shared experiences, topics addressed and reflections arising from the exchange.
