FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean

Second Session: Let's talk about safe production in cocoa-growing soils: heavy metal contamination

Virtual Event, 17/11/2026

About the session

The presence of heavy metals in agricultural systems represents one of the main challenges to agricultural sustainability and market access, particularly for crops that are strategic to the region. In recent years, the FAO, together with various partners, has developed the project “Reducing Cadmium Content in Amazonian Cocoa,” generating scientific evidence, analytical tools, and technical capacities to address this challenge.
This session is part of the regional series “Let’s Talk About Sustainable Agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean”. On this occasion, international experts will gather to share the project’s key findings, research experiences, and strategies aimed at strengthening safe, competitive, and sustainable agricultural production.

Overall Objective
