FAO and its UN co-publishing partners (IFAD, WFP, WHO and UNICEF) will launch the 2023 edition of the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report at a Special Event in the margins of the ECOSOC High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), in New York, on 12 July 2023.
Simultaneously, a hybrid press conference, open to all media interested and with interpretation in the five UN official languages (Arabic, English, Chinese, French and Russian) and Italian will take place in Rome at FAO headquarters.
SOFI 2023 will present the latest updates on the food security and nutrition situation around the world, including updated estimates on the cost and affordability of healthy diets.
The report’s theme “Urbanization, agrifood systems transformation, and healthy diets across the rural-urban continuum” will explore how urbanization is shaping agrifood systems and the implications of this nexus for the availability and affordability of healthy diets, food security and nutrition.
This year’s report will also present:
- Latest numbers and progress towards ending hunger and ensuring food security, and in-depth analysis of key challenges (including climate change, conflict, and rising food prices) for achieving these goals in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- A new analysis on how urbanization is changing food supply and demand across the rural–urban continuum.
- New evidence from African countries regarding differences in the cost and affordability of a healthy diet, and in food insecurity and different forms of malnutrition across the rural– urban continuum.’
- Policy, investments, and new technology recommendations to address the challenges, and capitalize on the opportunities, that urbanization brings for ensuring access to affordable healthy diets for everyone.
The press conference will be held at FAO Headquarters in Rome on 12 July 2023, from 16.00 CET and will have the participation of two of the main authors of the report:
- José Rosero Moncayo, Director, FAO Statistics Division
