Member countries of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) agreed that El Salvador will host the 40th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC40), to be held in 2028.

The announcement was made during the 39th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC39), which brought together ministerial delegations and authorities from across the region in Brasília to discuss the main challenges and opportunities for transforming agrifood systems.

During the announcement, El Salvador’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira, stated: “Latin America and the Caribbean has enormous potential to contribute decisively to global food security. That capacity can only be realized when we strengthen our productive systems with strategic vision, effective cooperation and stable environments that enable investment and production with confidence.”

“El Salvador is ready to contribute from its experience and progress. We also seek to expand partnerships with other countries, deepen cooperation with FAO and actively contribute to a transformative regional agenda,” she added.

FAO Regional Conferences constitute the Organization’s main regional governance forum, where Member States analyze agrifood systems challenges, exchange experiences and define the priorities that will guide FAO’s work in the region during the coming biennia.
