FAO and the Pan-American Trails Network sign Letter of Intent to strengthen conservation and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean
The partnership reaffirms FAO’s commitment to an intersectoral approach that promotes more sustainable, resilient, and equitable agrifood systems.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Pan-American Trails Network today signed a Letter of Intent marking a strategic step forward in strengthening partnerships for environmental conservation, sustainable development, and the well-being of people in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In its role as Technical Secretariat of the Latin American Technical Cooperation Network on National Parks, Other Protected Areas, Flora and Wildlife (RedParques), FAO promotes the engagement of key actors to support biodiversity conservation, improve rural livelihoods, and foster the sustainable management of natural resources. With this agreement, the Pan-American Trails Network joins as a strategic partner in this effort.
The agreement foresees the design and implementation of a strategy for training, exchange, and mutual strengthening, covering topics such as ecosystem services, biological connectivity, environmental education, and inclusive and sustainable tourism.
These actions will not only contribute to the restoration of key ecological processes but also generate employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of local communities. In a regional context marked by pressure on ecosystems and growing inequalities, this alliance offers a comprehensive response.
