FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean

With the mission of supporting the development of an international integration agenda for agri-food trade, the FAO has identified the promotion and strengthening of intraregional and global trade as a priority area of work for the development of resilient food systems.

In this regard, the development of partnerships has become a strategic pillar, enabling the delivery of high-quality technical assistance in partnership with related institutions, development banks, and academia.

What is RECA?

The Network of Experts on Agrifood Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean (RECA, for its Spanish acronym) is a forum that brings together specialists and experts with extensive experience in conducting research and training programs on issues related to agricultural trade and trade policy, including regional and multilateral trade agreements.

Its main objective is to facilitate the generation and exchange of knowledge and ensure that solutions are identified for a more equitable distribution of the benefits of open trade. To this end FAO, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have joined forces to provide technical support and facilitate the meeting of various experts.

What are its objectives

The Network of Experts on Agri-Food Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean provides a neutral and independent forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences on agri-food trade affecting Latin American and Caribbean countries; strengthens the technical quality and relevance of research on agri-food trade; builds capacity to provide technical advice and policy recommendations to governments and the private sector; and improves communication and information sharing on trade policy issues with the broader community.
