| INDONESIA Training to assess risk from zoonotic disease threats A Joint Risk Assessment (JRA) training on priority zoonotic diseases using JRA Operational Tool (JRA OT) was conducted by FAO, USAID and Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture in East Kalimantan Province from 20 to 23 February 2023. The training, which was based on the recommendations from the One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization (OHZDP) workshop in 2021, involved technical staff from the animal health and public health sectors, including the disease investigation centre and the environmental sector at the provincial level. Participants are expected to be able to conduct JRA OT, develop contingency plans, strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration, and provide input to policymakers to determine and implement scientific-based risk control measures and joint communication messaging. |

| ASIA AND THE PACIFIC REGION Possible partnership in the Pacific Islands A meeting between FAO ECTAD at RAP, FAO Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands, USAID Washington and USAID Mission for the Pacific Island Countries was conducted on 22 February 2023 to discuss potential partnership and expansion of USAID’s Global Health Security Program. The FAO Subregional Coordinator for the Pacific Islands, Ms Xiangjun Yao, also attended the meeting.

| ASIA AND THE PACIFIC REGION Courtesy visit to Mahidol University
FAO visited the Mahidol University Faculty of Veterinary Science on 23 January 2023 and was welcomed by the faculty lecturers and researchers. In the meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of collaboration. They expressed interest in capacity building and research on emerging infectious diseases, transboundary animal diseases and antimicrobial resistance, and laboratory enhancement. Following the meeting, the team took the opportunity to visit the Mahidol University National Laboratory Animal Center.

ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE (AMR)
| ASIA AND THE PACIFIC REGION FAO participates in regional ANIMUSE training FAO participated in several sessions of the WOAH regional training on ANIMUSE (ANImal antiMicrobial USE) held from 22 to 24 February 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. ANIMUSE is the new global database on antimicrobial agents intended for use, managed by WOAH. This event was an excellent opportunity to communicate the contents of the FAO/WOAH regional guideline on monitoring antimicrobial use at the farm level and meet WOAH focal points for veterinary products from Asia and the Pacific.
