32nd Session of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC)

The Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC) works to assist member countries to manage and prevent Desert Locust infestations and to prepare for and respond to Desert Locust emergencies. The Commission supports the development and adoption of preventive control strategies, as well as the economically and the environmentally sound locust control approaches to reduce the impact of the Desert Locust control on the vulnerable communities in member countries. CRC plays a key role in strengthening the cooperation and coordination among the members and encouraging the joint activities at the national, regional and international levels such as joint survey and control operations when necessary and feasible.

The 32nd Session of the Commission and its 36th Executive Committee Meeting will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 5-9 June 2022 in cooperation and support of the Locust and Transboundary Pest Control Centre of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

All 16 member countries of the Commission and Somalia (as observer) are invited to attend the Session. In addition, relevant FAO experts, representatives of the Regional Locust Control Commissions and Organizations, as well as representatives of the international partners, such as the French Development Agency and the US Agency for International Development are invited to attend the meeting.

The 32nd session of the CRC will discuss several technical important topics including the Desert Locust upsurge (2019 2021) and the lessons learned to improve the countries’ response capabilities climate change impact on locust outbreaks new technologies for improved locust survey and control operations.
