Background
Family farming is the backbone of global food systems — producing most of the world’s food and supporting the livelihoods of over 2.5 billion people. In both the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and Near East and North Africa (NENA) regions, family farmers play a vital role in food security, rural development, and cultural heritage.
Yet they also face shared challenges: limited access to land and finance, climate change impacts, youth migration, and more. In response, this interregional dialogue brings together policymakers, farmer organizations, researchers, and civil society to share innovative and scalable solutions that promote climate resilience, equity, and sustainability in family farming.
This event is co-organized by the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (RNE) and the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (RLC), under the umbrella of the United Nations Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF).
