One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative: Revitalizing Iraq’s Date Palm Value Chain

Through the OCOP initiative, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Government of Iraq and local farmers, is revitalizing the country’s date palm value chain — from orchard to market. By introducing modern irrigation systems, pest management solutions, and value-added processing, this initiative is helping restore Iraq’s centuries-old date palm heritage, boost farmers’ livelihoods, and strengthen the country’s position as a leading global producer and exporter of high-quality dates.
