FAO and ICARDA conclude a condensed training on Geographic Data Management

5 December 2018, Cairo -- Five cadres from the Libyan ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Marine Wealth gained a valuable expertise in Geographic Data Management, as part of the capacity building agreement between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of Libya.
Experts from the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) delivered the two-week long intensive training course from 18 to 28 November. The course provided an overview of the geospatial technology and applications, resources available from the public domains as well commercial enterprises, RS/GIS data characterization, analysis and applications, and guidelines for setting up and carrying out a typical RS/GIS based research project to support individual and institutional development to plan for and conduct data collection, analyses, application and dissemination.
The practical part of the training included field visits to research stations of the Agricultural Research Centre (ARC), the National Water Research Center (NWRC) and the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI).
