FAO and Union of Arab Chambers reaffirm collaboration in Near East and North Africa Region

11 April 2018, Cairo, Egypt – FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa (NENA) Abdessalam Ould Ahmed and Assistant Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers Shaheen Ali Shaheen met today to reaffirm their collaboration and work in the NENA region.
During the meeting, both parties discussed ways to develop their cooperation in the region to serve their common objective of developing regional economies, trade and investment in order to achieve food and water security.
In succession of the meeting, FAO and the Union of Arab Chambers will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to align their regional activities and exchange available knowledge on priority areas. The MoU will highlight the need to collaborate on sustainable developmental agriculture and irrigation projects as well as utilizing modern technologies.
“We look forward to signing the MoU with the Union of Arab Chambers so that both organizations could benefit from each other’s expertise and together we can work on developing the region and achieving zero hunger,” said Ould Ahmed.
The meeting was also attended by Nabil Gangi, Deputy Regional Representative, and Kayan Jaff, Senior Policy Officer.
In conclusion of the meeting, Shaheen invited Ould Ahmed to the Arab Conference and Exhibition for Investment in Food Security where key stakeholders will be discussing regional and country-level investments and initiatives to develop the agriculture industry.
