International Workshop Xylella fastidiosa (Xf) in the Mediterranean region

28 March 2022 - INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP XYLELLA FASTIDIOSA (XF) IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION
organized by CIHEAM Bari and Regione Puglia in collaboration with Food and Agricultre Organization of the United Nation (FAO).
Distinguished speakers and international experts from: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Olive Council, Puglia Region, CNR Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Ministero delle Politiche Agricole Alimentari e Forestali.
CIHEAM Bari meet today the delegations from Albania, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, KSA, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia to present updates on the spread of the bacterium and share the strategies implemented for regeneration of the devastated areas, in particular, in Puglia.
The putative socio economic impact at NENA region was also presented as a result of FAO and CIHEAM collaboration.
The workshop starts by the opening remarks :

- AbdulHakim ELWAER, Assistant Director-General, Regional Representative for Near East and North Africa, FAO.
In the scientific session :
- Mr Thaer Yaseen the regional Plant protection officer at NENA region presented Xylella fastidiosa in NENA region context and actions.
At the afternoon, it was organized a technical visit to the Conservation and production centre of “Pre-basic” material of grapevine, citrus, olive and stone fruits, “Martucci farm” of the University of Bari in Valenzano.
Followed by a Technical visit to “Fortunato Nursery”, producer of “certified” olive and stone fruit plants (Sammichele di Bari), with Luigi CATALANO - CIVI-Italia.
