The opening of EU-funded FAO Grants Scheme to Support agricultural activities & job creation program
Amman, October 3, 2021 - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Jordan, in cooperation with World Food Program (WFP), and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, encourage vulnerable farmers, smallholders and the small family-based agri-food enterprises from Jordanian regions to apply for theEuropean Union-funded financial grants for agricultural activities and job creation program for Syrian Refugees and Jordanians host communities.
This support programme is within the framework of the “Enhancing resilient livelihoods and food security of host communities and Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon through the promotion of sustainable agricultural development” project that is funded by the EU through its Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis (MADAD). The project is implemented by FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, WFP and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The grants will support Climate Smart Agricultural – CSA initiatives such as agricultural land reclamation, agricultural activities related to forests, as well as livestock breeding, milk and dairy production, vegetable and fruit and fodder production, in addition to other complementary works such as modern irrigation and fertigation systems, planting of vegetable and tree seedlings, grading and packaging of agricultural products and other environmentally-friendly agricultural activities.
The FAO Grant Scheme will target specific locations in seven governorates: Ma'an, Madaba, Ajloun, Irbid, Balqa, Karak and Tafileh. The grant will cover 85% of the total costs of the proposed project and 5 laborers support from Syrians refugees and Jordanians host communities.
Applicants interested in submitting proposals should fill out the “registration form” and “grants application form”. A total of 300 beneficiaries will be selected by FAO according to the criteria envisioned in the guidelines. Brief on the “Enhancing resilient livelihoods and food security of host communities and Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon through the promotion of sustainable agricultural development” project
The project responds to the reduced livelihood and food security levels as a result of the crisis in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon and tackles its negative impact on the host communities through support to the agriculture sector in improving the agricultural productivity and the farmers income in addition to the creation of job opportunities for both host communities and displaced Syrians. The project will also promote social protection mechanisms for the benefit of the host farming communities and the displaced population.
About the EU Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian crisis, the EU Madad Fund:
Since its establishment in December 2014, a significant share of the EU’s non-humanitarian aid for Syria’s neighbouring countries is provided through the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU ‘Madad’ Fund. The Trust Fund brings a more coherent and integrated EU aid response to the crisis and primarily addresses economic, educational, protection, social, and health needs of refugees from Syria in neighbouring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, and supports overstretched local communities and their administrations.
