The regional workshop of the Red Palm Weevil Management Program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations was opened

To train experts and program managers on the implementation of Farmers Field Schools and work on developing their curricula and tools,

The workshop was attended by invitees from the Arab Gulf countries (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait).

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Eng. Ayman Al-Ghamdi, Director of Phytosanitary Department from the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Environment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and by Mrs. Gosh Kakoli, Senior Technical Adviser in the Technical Cooperation Program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In the opening, Dr. Thaer Yaseen, the regional plant protection officer for the Near East and North Africa, gave a presentation on the activities of the project and its desired goals in the Kingdom and in the region. He also stressed that work will be done to overcome all obstacles facing the establishment of farmer field schools in a participatory manner among farmers and to obtain the best Results as achieved in previous FAO initiatives and projects
