Wild pigs, such as the Javan warty pig and wild boar, play an important role in ecosystems across Asia and the Pacific. However, they are facing extinction threats primarily due to ASF. The FAO and its partners are calling for urgent and collaborative action to protect these species.

The consultation workshop on the establishment of broiler farmer field school (BFFS) in Lao PDR was held from 5th– 6th August 2024 in Vangvieng District of Vientiane Province. The workshop was supported by the Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Lao People’ Democratic Republic. 

Assistant Director-General and Director of the Animal Production and Health Division (NSA)/Chief Veterinarian of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Mr Thanawat Tiensin, made courtesy visits to Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to purposely tighten connection among key partners to ensure greater and better impacts on the development work for the people of  Lao People's Democratic Republic.

The multi-sectoral National Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Committee held a two-day review meeting between 3-4 October 2024 in Vangvieng District, Vientiane Province, with all key stakeholders involved in addressing AMR in Lao PDR. 

A public walk in Vientiane, hosted by an alliance of ministries and development partners working to address the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), brought much-needed attention to this critical health issue.

The Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), jointly with the Department of Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, organized its 20th anniversary celebration.
