The United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency, through its Biological Threat Reduction Program, contributed USD 3 505 221 to strengthen central and regional veterinary services in six targeted governorates in Iraq (Anbar, Al-Muthanna, Basra, Duhok, Ninawa and Wasit) by building veterinary staff’s capacities to detect, diagnose and rapidly report highly pathogenic animal diseases and by providing equipment to veterinary laboratories.

Through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities, the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 500 000 to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to mitigate the adverse impacts of cyclone Remal on the livelihoods and food security of the most vulnerable farming households in the affected districts.
