FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia

Our Offices

FAO’s work in Europe and Central Asia is coordinated by its Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, in Budapest, Hungary. A core team with expertise in crops, livestock, forestry, fisheries, food safety and nutrition, trade and agricultural policy works out of this office.

Another team of experts – closely focused on the countries of Central Asia – are based in Ankara, Türkiye, at FAO’s Subregional Office for Central Asia. This office also administers the FAO-Türkiye Partnership Programmes.

Our offices

FAO’s presence across the region is led by the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, in Budapest, Hungary.

The FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia, located in Ankara, Türkiye, focuses on delivering FAO expertise and services to the countries of the sub-region – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have offices headed by an FAO representative. Albania, Armenia, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Uzbekistan have FAO offices headed by an Assistant FAO Representative while the role of FAO Representative is held by a senior official residing at the Regional Office in Budapest or Subregional Office in Ankara. In countries where FAO is active but has no office per se – Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine - a “national correspondent” from either the Ministry of Agriculture or another government institution acts as FAO’s focal point in the country while FAO Representative responsibility rests with a senior official at the Regional Office.

Liaison or partnership offices for key countries and organizations in the region are located in Baku, Brussels, Geneva, Moscow and Astana.

FAO also maintains a global administrative services hub in Budapest.
