Awareness-raising workshop to launch implementation of the VGGTs in Central Asia

This awareness-raising workshop is launching the project on the implementation of the VGGT in Central Asia. The project will assist two countries - Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan - with initial steps with implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security.
At today’s workshop, representatives of the Government, non-governmental organizations, academia, and national and international experts will discuss:

• Whether the national policy, legal and institutional frameworks align with the principles of good governance of tenure and whether communities and individuals have secure access and rights to use for land and other natural resources
• What are the specific thematic areas where improvements are needed (expropriation, land administration, public land management, pastoralists rights, evaluation, etc.)?
• What would be the right modality to apply the Guidelines in ways that fit national legal systems and approaches, including the way forward?
