Capacity building for sustainable wildlife management – Inception seminar
Hybrid Event, 05/04/2017
The TCP/GEO/3603 project “Capacity building for sustainable wildlife management” aims to develop an up-to-date wildlife resources management system for Georgia that will improve transparency and consistency of information on wildlife resources and use for planning and reporting purposes.
The project also aims to strengthen national capacities for implementing wildlife resources assessment, management and monitoring and to reinforce capacity of the rural population in wildlife resources monitoring and sustainable use.
Three draft laws, namely those on forestry, hunting and biodiversity, have recently been prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia (MENRP), and during the project implementation will be reviewed by international wildlife and legal experts to ensure that the future wildlife resources management system complies with good practices and standards. The project will also contribute to the National Forestry Concept for Georgia, more specifically to Priority Area 5.1: “Forest Management Planning” and 5.2: “Rational Use of Forest Resources”.
The event will bring together key stakeholders and international experts. 30 local and 10 international participants are expected.
