FAO Turkey hosts the FAO Permanent Representatives to showcase the Organization’s work in the country

FAO Turkey will host a mission for seven Permanent Representatives of member countries to familiarize themselves with FAO’s work in the field and to obtain a first-hand impression of challenges faced by the Organization’s decentralized offices in supporting member countries in their development and humanitarian efforts. The visits helps build an understanding of viable options and issues to be addressed for the Permanent Representatives with a view to improving the functioning of FAO’s decentralized offices and activities.
The delegation will visit several project sites and meet with beneficiaries and partners to learn about the improvements that was achieved with the support of the Organization, as well as challenges that are faced during these efforts.
The mission will begin with the field visit to Konya Closed Basin, observing the outcomes and impact of the biogas systems, apple orchards and irrigation systems of the GEF-funded project - Sustainable Land Management and Climate-Friendly Agriculture.
On the second day, the meetings are scheduled with high-level representatives of the Turkish Government from Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The day will continue with the meetings with UN Country Team of Turkey and ambassadors of Central Asian countries.
The third day will begin with a visit to Şanlıurfa GAPTEM Agricultural Training Centre for vocational training in greenhouse vegetable production and grafting, pruning. The delegation will meet with Syrian refugees and host communities who completed vocational training programme. The delegation will also meet with Şanlıurfa Regional Director of Forestry for the Conservation and Sustainable Management of Turkey’s Steppe Project activities.
