Hybrid Event, 25/01/2017 - 26/01/2017
Animal welfare is a complex subject with scientific, ethical, economic and cultural, social, religious and political dimensions. Nowadays animal producers are increasingly talking about animal welfare, and they also consider it as a characteristics of quality of their products. Taking into consideration, that animal welfare standards are not sanitary measures, they also have an important role in international trade, because they are only global, science-based standards agreed by the trading nations of the world. Harmonization of measures with international standards is a WTO principle to facilitate safe trade and avoid unnecessary trade barriers.
To develop a discussion about the topic in the region, FAO and the Royal Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is going to organize a regional workshop on animal welfare and slaughter. The topics would cover the different aspects of animal welfare, like transportation, slaughter, handling, sustainability and related legislation.
Participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova Ukraine will attend the event along with experts dealing with the topic.
