Regional workshop on lumpy skin disease (LSD) prevention and control strategies
Hybrid Event, 07/03/2017 - 09/03/2017
The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has invited representatives from select national veterinary services to attend the Regional workshop on lumpy skin disease (LSD) prevention, control, and awareness raising, for the Balkans, Caucasus, and Eastern European regions. The workshop will take place at the Ministry of Agriculture in Budapest, Hungary on 7-9 March 2017, and is jointly organised through a combination of funds from the technical cooperation programme and a donation by the Hungarian Government. Given the progressive transboundary spread of LSD, a regional approach to control the disease in the region is recommended, i.e. a common approach by all neighbouring countries, either already affected or those that will likely become infected in the coming months.
The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for countries to discuss their experiences, improve their knowledge, and discuss in an open forum, with the aid of experts, the most challenging issues faced by veterinary services when it comes to LSD prevention and control. Lessons learnt and practical, effective, and efficient solutions will be targeted. The workshop will have a highly interactive format, divided into thematic sessions moderated by experts on the specific subject: Contingency planning, risk management and communication; Awareness campaigns; Animal movement control; Insect control and environmental impact; Diagnostic tools and vaccination strategies; and Stamping out strategies. In addition, the workshop will provide the opportunity to present and gather feedback on the LSD field Manual that is currently under development, and set up the basis, frame and main components/activities for a future concept note/project on LSD prevention and control in the regions.
