Regional workshop on permaculture and community seed production
Hybrid Event, 15/11/2022
Permaculture and community seeds production continue to develop dynamically in Europe and Central Asia, as well as in many parts of the world. The increased demand for locally and organically produced nutritious food and resilient seeds provides an opportunity to develop permaculture in the region and fulfil countries’ desires to support the environment, biodiversity, and family farming. Definitions of permaculture slightly vary, however, all of them depict permaculture system as one mimicking the patterns and relationships found in natural ecosystems. Seeds represent one of the key elements in permaculture systems, as by saving seeds producers develop crop varieties, which suits their needs in terms of adaptability to local climate conditions, and resistance to pests and diseases.
To this end, FAO, and in collaboration with the Moldovan Association Gradina Moldovei, is organizing this virtual regional workshop on permaculture, foraging, and community seeds production at 10:30 to 13:00 (CET) on 15 November. The workshop aims to promote permaculture development in Europe and Central Asia as part of the Regional Technical Platform on Green Agriculture, through facilitating sharing of knowledge and experience on permaculture and community seeds production among countries of the region.
