Seventh Session of the Central Asian and Caucasus Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Commission (CACFish)

Fisheries and aquaculture play an important role in rural employment and economic development all around the world, including also Central Asia and the Caucasus. Furthermore, fish is the main source of animal protein for billions of people worldwide, and provide livelihood for more than 10 percent of the global population who depend on capture fishing and aquaculture.
Regional fisheries management organizations have become an essential mechanism through which countries can work together to manage, protect, and develop aquatic living resources. The Central Asian and Caucasus Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Commission (CACFish) is one example for this, which also has a central role in enhancing regional cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture involving key stakeholder from the region.
The Seventh Session of the Central Asian and Caucasus Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Commission will be held on 11–13 October 2021, in Istanbul, Turkey, with the participation of CACFish Members and invited contracting parties.
The Commission will review the activities conducted since the last Session in 2018; main decisions and recommendations of the respective FAO Governing Bodies; progress status and future direction of the second five-year regional work programme; and follow up on decisions of the Sixth Session of CACFish. Discussions will also focus on administrative and financial affairs; the recommendation directed by the Technical Advisory Committee the Commission. Additionally, the Commission will decide on its autonomous budget for 2021–2022; and the work programme for the intersessional period 2021–2023.
