Technical consultation on Geographical Indications Schemes

“Inclusive and efficient agricultural and food systems in REU region through development of sustainable Geographical Indications” - is the main topic of the technical consultation on Geographical Indications (GI) Schemes in the REU Region. REU studies on the state of the art with Geographical Indications (GI) and the GI-linked policies in Albania, Armenia, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Poland and Russia will be presented and discussed by the experts.

Main results of the consultation shall be to identify gaps and share experiences among countries considering the role of GI policies in rural development, agriculture policies and in export promotion activities as well as reviewing recommendations on GI schemes for REU countries to become an element of national food quality and export promotion policies. This should lead to identify regional and country level priorities in this technical area for FAOs work in the Region and to recommend future joint technical cooperation within FAO REU Regional Initiative on Improved agrifood trade.
