Three-Country GASL Multi-Stakeholder Meeting
Hybrid Event, 10/02/2020 - 11/02/2020
This is the final event in the framework of an FAO project “Identifying low carbon and climate resilient pathways for the ruminant sector in the selected countries of Central Asia”, where different stakeholders will identify priorities and practices for the development of climate-resilient and low-carbon livestock as part of the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (www.livestockdialogue.org). Using the results of the Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model, optimal adaptation and mitigation strategies (such as changing the production systems, developing climate-friendly feeding strategies or sustainably intensifying production) will be proposed for each country. Also, information will be provided on practices and experience in pasture management. The participants of the event will represent four major stakeholder groups:
- national governments;
- the academic community;
- livestock-related businesses;
- civil society.
The overall goal of the meeting is to discuss the results of studies of the policies and ruminant production systems, followed by recommendations on livestock management practices that are resistant to and minimize the effects of climate change. Based on the feedback from the stakeholders, follow up actions including ideas for future projects aimed at development of sustainable ruminants production policies and adoption of climate-friendly practices, will be identified.
