Towards gender equality and transformative agrifood systems
Budapest (Hungary), Hybrid Event, 24/11/2022 - 25/11/2022
Gender equality and rural women’s empowerment are key strategic priority areas for FAO at global, regional, and national levels. Reflecting on existing and also emerging challenges, such as the impact of the pandemic and military conflicts, the 33rd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe, held in May 2022, recommended FAO to further improve mainstreaming of gender equality and women’s empowerment into all work in the region.
Effective gender mainstreaming for achieving sustainable and profound impact of development interventions requires regular, systematic and continuous learning, generation of region-specific knowledge and supporting collection and analysis of gender statistics for the formulation and implementation of evidence-based food and agricultural policies and strategies. In light of this, FAO is convening a regional workshop, combining knowledge sharing with the preparations of the next phase of its regional strategy and action plan on gender mainstreaming in Europe and Central Asia.
Objectives of the workshop:
- Enhance participants’ knowledge through learning and exchange triggered by the conclusions and recommendations of FAO’s new knowledge products;
- Collect input for the next stage of the regional gender equality strategy and action plan 2023–2026, and prioritize next steps.
