Hybrid Event, 19/11/2018
An FAO workshop today in Yerevan, Armenia, provides an opportunity to understand how the country can develop its national e-agriculture strategy. The event is within the framework of the EU-funded FAO project “ENPARD Technical Assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia”.
The Armenian Ministry of Agriculture requested FAO assistance to develop a national e-agriculture strategy in 2017. This was reiterated during the 31st session of FAO’s Regional Conference for Europe in May 2018.
The e-agriculture is the application of information and communication technologies to agriculture, including crops, livestock, fisheries and forestry. It embraces the whole food system. It includes more traditional technologies, such as radio, television, mobile phones, and new digital technologies, such are drones, satellites, sensor technology, Internet of Things, Machine to Machine.
The aim of e-agriculture is to enhance agriculture and rural development through improved information and communication processes. It involves the conceptualization, design, development, evaluation and application of innovative ways to use information and communication technologies in the rural domain.
