Workshop: Strengthening the linkages between agriculture, rural development, and migration governance
Hybrid Event, 30/11/2022 - 01/12/2022
Migration, a complex phenomenon with a multitude of root causes, has diverse impacts on rural populations, food systems and the rural economy. While these impacts vary from country to country, the rural areas of Europe and Central Asia are particularly affected by labour migration.
FAO has identified the need for enhanced coherence between current migration policies and agriculture, rural development, food security, and nutrition policies across the region. This is a precondition for maximizing the benefits of migration, while minimizing the costs for migrants and societies in general, specifically in the rural context.
In order to support national agricultural actors to engage in policy dialogue on migration-sensitive topics linked to agriculture and rural development, FAO is organizing a regional technical workshop on mainstreaming agriculture and rural development into migration governance and vice versa. The technical workshop aims to raise awareness among national actors about the impact of migration on agriculture and rural development and, vice versa, how agricultural developments might impact migration patterns.
The webinar will take place online (via Zoom) on 30 November to 1 December, with simultaneous interpretation into English and Russian languages.
