FAO at the 2026 Global Forum for Food and Agriculture

The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) is an international conference on central issues of global agricultural and food policies, held in Berlin on an annual basis. The 2026 GFFA is organized by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity from 14 to 17 January in Berlin, under the overarching theme: Water. Harvests. Our Future.
FAO will participate in the GFFA at many levels, including the following events.
The conference will be focusing on four subtopics:
- Using water sustainably
- Strengthening the blue bioeconomy
- Addressing competing uses constructively
- Enhancing international water governance
Expert panels
Sharing water fairly for food and water security: The Global Dialogue on Water Tenure (16 January 2026, 11:30 a.m.)
This panel presents global, national, and local perspectives on water tenure assessment and application, as well as stakeholder involvement in the Global Dialogue, in an interactive format.
Blue Food and the Blue Bioeconomy: Pathways to nutrition, resilience, and sustainability (16 January 2026, 3:30 p.m.)
This session will bring together leading experts, practitioners, and policymakers to explore both the untapped potential of aquatic food and the complex challenges that must be overcome to scale them sustainably and equitably.
High-level panel
Finding constructive solutions to competing water uses (16 January 2026, 9:30 a.m.)
The FAO high-level panel will explore how to address control over, competition for, and access to water resources for agriculture and other sectors, while ensuring efficient and effective management. It will serve as a platform for discussing policies and legal frameworks that can promote integrated approaches to water management and governance, and identifing key entry points for stronger integration between water and agrifood systems in light of the UN 2026 Water Conference.
Cooperation Market (15–16 January)
The GFFA Cooperation Market offers an exciting exhibition format, presenting innovative projects, practical examples and new solutions related to the GFFA’s main topic.
The FAO stand (no 1 on floor 1) will showcase innovative examples of water management approaches and best practices for sustainable water use. It will promote ways to ensure agricultural water use without harming the ability of future generations.
