Final workshop on the guidelines for the creation of artificial glaciers and the “Artificial Glacier – Reservoir – Farmer” system

At the final workshop, FAO will present the final approved Guidelines Document on the creation of artificial glaciers, together with the new “Artificial Glacier – Reservoir – Farmer” system equipped with drip irrigation.

Participants will review the results of testing the system in the field and discuss the next steps for scaling up the approach across the country.

The guidelines were developed at the request of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. By storing winter water as ice and delivering it to fields through small reservoirs and modern irrigation, the system helps mountain farming communities adapt to water shortages driven by climate change.
