Food Systems Talk: Feeding Europe in a changing climate
Virtual Event, 24/07/2023
The next Food Systems Talk entitled “Feeding Europe in a changing climate: Challenges and opportunities for sustainable food systems transformation”, is jointly organized by the Issue-based Coalition on Sustainable Food Systems (IBC-SFS) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
As we approach the UN Food Systems Stocktaking Moment, it is becoming increasingly evident that climate change exerts a profound impact on every aspect of our food systems. In light of this, the fifth Food Systems Talk brings together Claude Haagen, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development of Luxembourg, and Elena Mateescu, Director of the National Meteorological Administration from Romania, in a discussion, moderated by Kornelia Radics, Director of the WMO Regional Office for Europe, that will shed light on the intricate relationship between climate and food systems.
Claude Haagen will provide valuable insights into the policy perspective of the climate-food systems nexus. His extensive experience and leadership in shaping agricultural policies will provide us with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the face of climate change.
Elena Mateescu with her scientific-technical perspective, will delve into the intricate details of how climate impacts food systems, highlighting the crucial role of meteorology and climate science in our efforts to build sustainable food systems.
The two perspectives will help us bridge the gap between policy and scientific understanding, showcasing the importance of collaboration and informed decision-making.
