Food Systems Talk 4: Towards a circular economy of food: Views and perspectives for Europe and Central Asia
Virtual Event, 11/07/2023
“Towards a circular economy of food: Views and perspectives for Europe and Central Asia”, is part of the Food Systems Talk initiative, organized by the United Nations Issue-based Coalition on Sustainable Food Systems (IBC-SFS) for Europe and Central Asia in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
This virtual event explores the basic concept of circular economy and its applications towards a circular food system, aiming at reducing the use of natural resources and emissions to the environment, within planetary boundaries, by closing the loop of materials and substances, and avoiding waste. Speakers look at the best ways to design food systems with a circular approach and what value chain actors are required to do to improve efficiency with limited resources, and, at the same time, ensure economic viability and safe and high-quality food.
This episode of the Food Systems Talk will feature an interview with Elisabeth Türk, Director of UNECE’s Economic Cooperation and Trade Division and Martin van Ittersum at the Department of Plant Sciences, Plant Production Systems group of Wageningen University, on the different aspects of circular economy.
