Food Systems Talk 7: Transforming food systems from within
Virtual Event, 07/04/2025
The seventh Food Systems Talk “Transforming food systems from within. The role of consciousness and inner development for regenerative and equitable food systems” is jointly organized by the UN Issue-based Coalition on Sustainable Food Systems (IBC-SFS) and the Conscious Food Systems Alliance.
The Food Systems Talks were launched last year by the IBC-SFS in the context of the UN Food Systems Summit, as an opportunity to increase awareness on how food systems are interlinked in all three dimensions of sustainability, and why a food systems transformation is necessary to achieve healthy people and a healthy planet.
Consciousness and mental models are increasingly recognized as the key to unlock systems change, and regenerative agriculture calls for regenerative mindsets and cultures.
This episode of the Food Systems Talk will shed a light on the work of the Conscious Food Systems Alliance, an initiative convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Alliance aims to support the transition towards regenerative food systems through the cultivation of inner capacities – our individual and collective awareness, mindsets, beliefs, values, worldviews, and associated (cognitive, emotional and relational) qualities and skills. Given the complexity of food systems, transforming them requires addressing more than just symptoms and systemic patterns; we must also focus on the fundamental drivers of these systems.
The Talk will feature an interview with Thomas Legrand, Lead Technical Advisor of the Conscious Food Systems Alliance, as the moderator and facilitator of the talk, alongside members of the Alliance Christine Wamsler and Katie Palmer. Christine Wamsler is a Professor of Sustainability Science at Lund University Centre of Sustainability Studies, Sweden, Director of the Contemplative Sustainable Futures Program. Katie Palmer is founder and Head of Food Sense Wales.
This Food System Talk is aimed raising awareness on the importance of consciousness and inner development in achieving and contributing towards food systems transformations.
