Integrated Forest Fire (Wildfire) Management Training

Semey (Kazakhstan), 22/04/2025 - 23/04/2025

Forests cover 31 percent of the world’s land surface, store an estimated 296 gigatonnes of carbon and are home to the majority of terrestrial biodiversity. They provide essential resources for millions of people while helping to mitigate climate change and improve environmental quality. In the face of increasing challenges from climate change, conflicts and economic shocks, multi-stakeholder collaboration and knowledge exchange have become more important than ever.

The Integrated Forest Fire (Wildfire) Management Training aims to provide essential knowledge and practical skills for managing forest fires across the region. This two-day training course represents a collaborative effort between two projects under the FAO-Türkiye Partnership Programmes: “Building Capacities through South-South Cooperation (SSTC)” and “Enhancing the capacity of the Turkish International Forestry Training Centre”.

The first day will consist of theoretical sessions covering critical topics including combating forest fires in Türkiye, forest fire and its characteristics, factors affecting forest fire, and intervention tactics and extinguishing methods. The second day will be a field day dedicated to practical training, allowing participants to apply knowledge in realistic scenarios.

This training supports the broader goals of building resilient agrifood systems through South-South Cooperation, deploying Turkish experts to project sites as requested by beneficiary countries.
