National consultation on the integration of tenure security considerations into strategies and action plans
Astana (Kazakhstan), 06/12/2023 - 08/12/2023
With support from FAO, Kazakhstan is formulating and implementing a national action plan to combat desertification aimed at creating an effective mechanism to counter desertification processes. The goal of the programme is not only to reduce desertification but also to restore already degraded lands while ensuring sustainable development. As part of this process, a national consultation on the integration of tenure security considerations into strategies and action plans to combat desertification, land degradation, and drought will be organized on 6-8 December in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The primary objectives of the consultation are to:
- Exchange experiences and share knowledge on the role of secure tenure in improving natural resource management practices and rural livelihoods.
- Discuss with national and local authorities and experts the availability and use of data related to land degradation, tenure, and gender with a view to restoring natural capital and providing multiple societal benefits through enhanced tenure security.
- Bring together diverse actors with a view to raise awareness and enhance collaboration on sustainable land use and tenure security issues.
- Identify potential partners (national and international), including donors and experts, who could be involved in sustaining the momentum created by the consultation.
- Define the next steps, including a possible roadmap for integrating tenure into land degradation neutrality and land restoration initiatives.
