National training workshop on improving feed in aquaculture
Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), 19/12/2024 - 20/12/2024
A major constraint to increasing aquaculture production in Turkmenistan is access to cost-effective, high-quality aquafeed. Poor quality feeds and feed management practices can lead to low growth rates, farm production and economic returns. Due to low revenues, farmers can’t afford good quality feed inputs, perpetuating a cycle of inefficiency and poor performance. Breaking this cycle requires a holistic approach to improve aquafeed quality, the supply chain, and feed management on farms.
The aim of this workshop is to improve the quality of locally manufactured aquafeeds available to farmers in Turkmenistan. The training is organized within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) technical project, “Development of aquafeed value chain and aquatic animal health management capacity,” in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan.
The workshop will focus on:
- Building skills among feed manufacturers, fish farmers and line institutions to improve the quality of locally manufactured aquafeeds for major culture species that are farmed in Turkmenistan.
- Providing attendees with the opportunity to learn how to formulate and manufacture high-quality, cost-effective aquafeeds that satisfy the nutritional requirements of the farmed species in Turkmenistan and their associated growth stages.
- Improving on-farm feed management practices.
The training will be conducted in Russian and English with simultaneous interpretation services available.
