Offsite Meeting of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Working Group

Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), 23/06/2026 - 25/06/2026

The offsite meeting of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Working Group will bring together key national stakeholders and technical experts to advance the development of a draft National Action Plan to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance for 2026–2029.

Antimicrobial resistance is a major global challenge affecting human and animal health, food production, and national economies. In Kyrgyzstan, FAO supports coordinated efforts to address AMR through a One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.

The meeting will serve as a platform for intersectoral dialogue among representatives of government institutions, veterinary and public health services, academia, and development partners. Participants will review existing progress, identify priority gaps, and define strategic directions for the new action plan, building on previous national efforts to strengthen surveillance, promote responsible use of antimicrobials, and enhance awareness and capacity across sectors.

Through collaborative discussions, the working group will contribute to shaping coherent, evidence-based policies and coordinated actions aimed at containing antimicrobial resistance, improving biosecurity and production practices, and safeguarding public health, food security, and sustainable agricultural development in Kyrgyzstan.
