Opening ceremony of water reservoir
Batken (Kyrgyzstan), (Kyrgyzstan), 25/11/2024
The Batken oblast, located in the south-eastern part of the Fergana Valley, is characterized by a hot climate in spring and summer and is most exposed to the risks of climate change.
The reservoir, with a capacity of more than 2 000 m3, will allow rational use of irrigation water, which is particularly important given the shortage of irrigation water during the growing season. Drip irrigation will reduce irrigation water consumption by 30-50 percent compared to traditional irrigation methods.
FAO procured and supplied specialized materials for the construction of the reservoirs: geotextile, geomembrane and gabion mesh. Auxiliary materials were also supplied: hinged mesh and concrete posts for fencing the reservoir. The construction of the reservoir was carried out by the beneficiaries.
